Knowing What is in Your Solar System
6th Grade Science Standard 3: Students will understand the relationship and attributes of objects in the solar system.
Ed Tech 6: Design, develop, publish and present products (e.g., Web pages, videotapes) using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom. (4,5,6)
This was created as a fun tool to learn about the planets in our solar system. Thinglink gives the students the choice to choose which planet to learn from by clicking on whichever planet they choose to learn about. I want my students to learn about each of the planets and what makes them unique. This will also help them learn the order of the planets and know that terrestrial planets are grouped together and Jovian planets are grouped together. This provides a good visual to help reinforce the objects in the solar system.

Tilting and the Seasons
|
6th Grade Science Standard 2: Students will understand how Earth's tilt on its axis changes the length of daylight and creates the seasons.
Ed Tech 6: Design, develop, publish and present products (e.g., Web pages, videotapes) using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom. (4,5,6)
I used Tiki-Toki because what better way to show seasons than with a timeline. The purpose of this was to have the students get a better grasp on why we have seasons. I have images of where the Earth is in relation to the sun as they go throughout the timeline. It is important to realize that seasons don't happen because we get closer and farther away from the sun, (that doesn't happen at all) but because of the tilt of the Earth and the amount of sunlight that the Earth is exposed to. Students will understand that it is the Earth's tilt that causes the seasons that we have today.

Moon Phases
6th Grade Science Standard 1: Students will understand that the appearance of the moon changes in a predictable cycle as it orbits Earth and as Earth rotates on its axis.
Ed. Tech 6: Design, develop, publish and present products (e.g., Web pages, videotapes) using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom. (4,5,6)
I want my students to have a general understanding of the moon phases, and why the phases occur. I want my student's to be able to look up in the night sky and be able to see and identify which phase the moon is in. I feel that through this creative and fun presentation the students will be able to notice the pattern of the phases. Students should learn the moon phases and will be able to apply this knowledge into their everyday lives. The video in the end will help explain why knowing the moon phases is important and what they are.
